Development Ichthushof in Rotterdam on schedule

Tuesday, 11 May 2010

Work on the landscaped inner courtyard covering the INHolland University site in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is progressing rapidly. Erick van Egeraat designed and built not only the original building and the extension of the university, but also designed the masterplan and the inner courtyard of the site. The 15,000-m2 extension of the university was delivered in 2008 and consists of three interconnected parts as well as a three-storey building connecting with the original building.

Besides the potentials of the site it was the quality of the design of the heart of this masterplan area which attracted the occupants of the individual buildings. The roof of the metro tube that surfaces at the very end of the site is no longer an obstacle, but an attractive vegetated and accessible element, which enables fluid connections of the area. A rich variety of plants and trees will be alternated with paved paths and areas to allow for a quiet and natural area amidst the university, the office buildings and the harbour. The plan is scheduled for opening October 2010.
