Monday, 21 June 2010

Erick van Egeraat has been invited by German art collectors Hans-Joachim Sander and Gisa Sander-Stiftung to be a jury member in the international competition for the realisation of the newly to be built Museum Sander Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, Germany. Some 20 architects, including internationally renowned architects, museum architects and young German architects, are participating in the competition. The jury sitting is being held on 24 and 25 June 2010. The winner of the competition will be announced on Monday 28 June.

The Sander family, who are the principals of the competition, are offering the museum to the city of Darmstadt. Some 250 artifacts will be exposed in the museum, including the collection of 18th, 19th and 20th century paintings of the Sander family. The museum will be situated at the Alexandraweg in Darmstadt, on the site of the former House Christiansen. The House Christiansen on the Mathildenhöhe, a hill outside the town, was built to house the first exhibition of the so-called Künstlerkolonie Mathildenhöhe (Art Nouveau artists’ colony), but was destroyed in World War II.
