On Tuesday 9 March 2010 Design Erick van Egeraat organises a press meeting in the Erick van Egeraat office tower, also known as The Rock, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Erick van Egeraat, who designed both the exterior and the interior of the office building, will give a lecture in the auditorium and will personally guide the attendees throughout the office tower.
Prominently located in the Mahler4 area of the Amsterdam Zuidas, the Erick van Egeraat office tower opened in 2009 and now houses the new headquarters of the Dutch law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. The 90-metre tall office tower has become a landmark in which lines, colours, materials and details in the exterior and the interior are subtly intertwined. The exterior is vertically divided in three sections, each revealing its own character and material expression, a volume of transparent and printed glass and aluminium panels forming a subtle transition between the transparent lower part and the rock-like façade of the upper part. The specific interior design combined with the carefully selected materials has resulted in a unique interior which perfectly matches the needs of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.
Sustainability played a crucial role in the design of the Erick van Egeraat office tower. Erick van Egeraat designed a dense but flexible office building, in which the energy use is reduced up to 30%. Due to its innovative design and the use of solid, high-quality materials, such as natural stone, wood and brass, the building will have a long-lasting lifespan.
