Paulinum Auditorium in Leipzig is nearing completion

Thursday, 23 January 2014

The Auditorium Space of the Paulinum Leipzig University building is in its final stages of construction. The unique design is a contemporary material and functional interpretation of the original church Space that was here until 1968, when it was destroyed. Instead of literally rebuilding it, or finding an abstract metaphor for that original space, Erick van Egeraat is reconstructing the memory of the space that once was. This is being done with white plaster, ceramics and glass. The space can be divided by the largest transparent sliding door in the world. The resulting multifunctional space can be used for debates, university gatherings, religious services, performances and exhibitions, and act as the renewed heart of the Leipzig University.

The Auditorium space will be completed in summer 2014.
