Rosette window installed in the University of Leipzig

Monday, 2 August 2010

The University of Leipzig is slowly getting it’s definitive shape. Last week the 350.000,- Euro rosette window was installed in the facade of the newly build auditorium building. Constructed out of lime stone and glass the rosette refers to the window of the original university church that stood in this location on the Augustusplatz before it was demolished in 1968. With the same dimensions but designed and constructed with contemporary technique and pattern, like the overall buildings design, it is certainly not a historicizing copy of its predecessor.
