Erick van Egeraat in dialogue on 100th Catholic Day in Leipzig
Monday, 30 May 2016Saturday may 28th, from 14:00-15:30, Erick van Egeraat will take part in the dialogue:
‘The Leipzig University Church as a platform for religion and science?’
The Paulinum Auditorium and University Building was designed by Erick van Egeraat, and built on the site where in the late ‘60’s the original, century old building was destroyed.
The design is neither a reconstruction of the original building, nor a denial of the rich and charged history of this place in the city of Leipzig and Germany. Instead, the building, and specifically the auditorium space offers a commemoration of the original space, that allows a multitude of usage for the differentiated audience of contemporary society.
Prof. Dr. Hans Joachim Meyer (former Saxony State Ministre for Science and Art), Prof. Dr. Beate A. Schücking (Rector Leipzig University), Dr. Ulrich Stötzner (chairman of Paulinum Society) and Prof. Dr. Peter Zimmerling (first University Preacher) will take part in the dialogue, which will be moderated by Prof. Günther Fitzl.
