The Photographers’ Gallery
London, United Kingdom

This project aims to transform the existing Kingsway Tram Tunnel into a gallery of photography that can arrange supporting activities in its different spaces. Key elements are health, safety, and access issues. These issues are closely associated with the assessment of the existing tunnel structure. Some structural alterations will be done to provide light and access to the old station, two options are considered: the forming of centrally placed roof openings or high- and low-level openings on the sides.

The gallery consists of different layers across seven floors. These floors simultaneously act as some of the defining gallery spaces. The foyer plays an especially big role, connecting to many different facilities like the gallery shop, restaurant, education/activity room and auditorium.
