Glinki-Moika Redevelopment
St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

The Glinki Moika redevelopment is situated in the Admiralteisky district of the historical city centre of St Petersburg, in close proximity to the Mariinsky Theatre, New Holland Island and the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Previously, the site has been utilised by research and educational facilities working for the Ministry of Defence. After relocating, this unique site is available for substantial redevelopment in the historic city centre.

The design calls for perimeter buildings that form a classical city block, corresponding to the rigid grid system of the city. A series of residential buildings are placed in the courtyard, creating high quality exterior spaces within the perimeter buildings. This layout relates to the qualities typically found in the inner city courtyards of St. Petersburg. On-site monuments will be restored and redeveloped. The plan maximises the site, corresponding to local height requirements and daylight regulations. For the new residential buildings, structural concrete fins ensure privacy and create verticality in the glazed facades. The development will integrate smoothly into the city and provide a subtle juxtaposition of contemporary sensibility with the surrounding neo-classical architecture of the city of St. Petersburg.
