Exhibition British Sports Car Design
Rotterdam, Netherlands

Erick van Egeraat was commissioned by the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to create the exhibition design for four exhibitions between 1995-1998. This represented a crucial time in the history of the Kunsthal, the Rem Koolhaas-designed building that was completed in 1992, as the institution was developing its identity and seeking ways to reach larger audiences. The final exhibition in the series design Erick van Egeraat was “British Sports Car Design” in 1998. More than twenty rare and famous British sports cars, such as the classic Austin 7 Swallow Speedster, the MG 18/80 Speed Model and the Austin-Healey 100M were shown alongside the newest Jaguar, MG, Aston Martin and TVR models. The exhibition combined a unique arrangement of sports cars from international and national public and private collections. The exhibition design featured undulating sheer curtains, offering a sense of movement and creating shifting transparencies and exposure. The arrangement of the cars and curtains also created flowing passageways between cars and offered unique vantage points and juxtapositions between vehicles.
