Design Erick van Egeraat has been awarded the Grand Prix and the Silver Diploma for the Siberian Golden Capitals

From 31st of January until the 3rd of February the 16th International Winter Festival of Architecture and Design ‘Golden Capital’ was held in Novosibirsk, Siberia. On this festival, urban planning, architecture and design have the central focus.

The Trade and Entertainment Centre in Surgut designed by Erick van Egeraat won the Grand Prix this year. The Vershina Trade and Entertainment Centre is the first five-star international shopping centre in Surgut and offers space for retail, extreme sports areas, dance studios, restaurants, bars and an underground night-club. The multifunctional building was inspired by a cube of ice, lying on the tip of an iceberg. On this unconventional shopping centre the lighting is constructed as a haven in the night.

Another award, the Silver Diploma, was also awarded to Erick van Egeraat in the category public buildings. The winning building was the Chess & Billiard Club in Khanty-Mansiysk with its modern façade. The Chess Club is designed around a central, double height and very silent playing hall with tribunes. This hall is very flexible in use in order to allow different other events for the city to take place. Around this hall daylight requiring functions such as administration and individual playing halls are spread.
