After months of being covered by scaffolding and protection film, the facade of Trade and Entertainment Centre ‘Vershina’ in Surgut, Siberia, is finally starting to unveil. The end-result will be remarkably close to the original design, as is characteristic of the work of Erick van Egeraat.
The design of the building, with its different volumes separated by glass atriums, plays on the contrast between light and dark, solid and transparent, open and closed. Primary cuts in the facade divide the basic mass and allow daylight in and artificial light out at night. Secondary cuts contain beams of light that intersect the entire skin at different angles. Combined with an extensive exterior lighting scheme, they will turn the complex into a veritable beacon of light during the nine dark Siberian winter months.
