Erick van Egeraat’s Roskilde Incineration Line project is almost finished. The design for the new incineration line in Roskilde, Denmark, presents an iconic expression for the otherwise functional architecture of local waste management company Kara / Noveren’s next generation incineration line.
The Roskilde incinerator is created specifically to add value to an otherwise purely industrial surrounding. Enriching the skyline of the small Danish city, the silhouette of the incinerator also provides a historic comment. The building balances scale, use, landscape, and urban silhouette, and in addition to finding this balance, also explores the possibilities of expressing the process of turning waste into energy.
At night the back lighted perforated facade transforms the incinerator into a gently glowing beacon – a symbol of the plant’s energy production.
