Gelendzhik Airport
Gelendzhik, Russian Federation

The Gelendzhik Airport connects the third most popular Black Sea resort city in Russia to eleven domestic destinations, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Yekaterinburg.

Implementing clear distinctions of functions in the surrounding landscape is key in the design. These functions are divided in separate boxes that connect to glass corridors, which let airport visitors and workers experience the surrounding landscape in full without having to leave the building. Nature is to be left untouched as much as possible, which is the reason for the hollowed roof, as it supports the flora that grows ‘’out and about’’ the airport.

Through distribution of car and bus flows through short- and long-term parking entrances as well as dedicated drop-off zones in front of the main entrance and the bus parking areas, the circulation around the airport is given thought.
